SketchUp by Google

When I'm not doodling pencil-and-paper, I typically retreat to my cold basement to tinker with some 3D modeling, courtesy of Google SketchUp--a free download that lets you make virtual 3D drawings. I've finally gotten brave enough to upload some samples of my work, so feel free to follow the link to see my latest artistic endeavors.

The Prodigal Artist

Hey folks. I know it's been a year or so since I've posted anything, but the fans have spoken, and so, I'll oblige. I've been encouraged (well, pestered really) to update this blog with more current stuff. Fear not--I haven't stopped doodling. So, here is a pile of random doodles. Enjoy!

A New Hero

This guy (who is currently nameless) is a new hero with clairvoyant powers--he can see the future. He's based on an idea from my buddy. I have a few costume ideas doodled here and there, but they only deviate in color scheme. The helmet is constant in every design. I figured it's necessary to protect your noggin when you have thought-based powers. Thanks for the idea, Matt!

The Adventures of Dock Boy

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this website is dedicated to documenting a comic universe that exists in my mind. You see, no comics have actually been written, drawn or distributed in any form more substantial than a doodle. Nevertheless, the whole universe does exist in my imagination. I thought it might be fun to give you a quick overview of the first few issues of "The Adventures of Dock Boy."

Issue #1-3: Dock Boy investigates a mysterious boat accident that leads him to a fight with King Kelp and his Bog People.
#4 and #5: Two-parter where DB meets Icecap, the freeze-powered villain, and battles him at his hockey rink lair.
#6: One-shot with Mr. Sandbag--the villain with magic sleeping dust.
#7: Halloween special. Tony and the Dockings crew celebrate with a costume party that ends up attracting real-life werewolves.
#8: Icecap escapes from custody and makes a break for Capital City. Dock Boy pursues and meets Crime Knight, Cap City's very own costumed protector.
#9-10: Metal Man comes to the marina and has a bone to pick with Tony's boss. It's revealed that Metal Man is, in fact, Peter's old partner.

That's what I've got so far. More to come in the future!

Sajon

This guy was created by my brother many years ago. He wears a magical amulet that bestows the user with enhanced strength, speed and durability. The stone merges the wearer with the spirit of the demi-god Sajon (kind of like the original Thor stories). Sajon's secret identitiy is Jay Edwards, modeled after my brother, Jason.

Here's a fun fact: When he created the character, Jason never came up with a name. He always referred to him as "Indian-dude." In an effort to be more "PC"--and more clever--I rearranged the letters in "Jason" to spell "Sajon."

Tony

Tony is the secret identitiy of Dock Boy. In a perfect world, I'd be this cute and buff. Here he is in his Dockings uniform ("The Dockings" being the Art Galaxy equivalent of "The Moorings," the marina where I was employed on Mallett's Bay in Colchester). The name arose after a joke around the boat yard. We didn't sell moorings, but we did sell dock-space. I think you can figure out the rest.

Dock Boy

Dock Boy is my flagship character. He was created during the summer of 1996 (between my Junior and Senior years in high school) when I worked at a marina as--brace yourselves--the dock boy. After a long, hard day of work, I sat down and doodled an answer to the question "What would the best dock boy in the world be like?" In my twisted view of reality, he came out as a superhero. He doesn't have any super powers, per se, but he's a natural athlete and excellent swimmer, with uncanny balance and intuitive navigation skills. These are all things that would come in handy as a dock boy and as the masked protector of Baytown, Vermont(modeled not-so-loosely on Colchester, VT).
